IDF commit war crimes with banned weapons used on civilians

Bush, Brown, Blair....you killed! More bad news from Gaza, I am sure scores of war mongers will be watching from their deck chairs.

Here is a new report, please take action.

Latest From Gaza

Israeli forces are now entering Gaza city, one of the most densely populated cities in the world. If there is one thing we know from the last 16 days it is that hundreds of innocent people will now lose their lives as the Israeli military operation intensifies. The IDF have shown scant disregard for civilians in their operations and as they bulldoze their way into Gaza that many children will be killed and maimed.

It really is vital at this time that Gordon Brown and the government are made aware of the strength of the opposition there is in the country to Israeli continuing war crimes in Gaza. So please, if you haven’t already please fill out our online letter to your constituency MP. It is really simple and quick to complete.

If you have already filled out the form, please distribute the link among your friends and contacts. The weight of public opinion can make a real difference and the more letters we get to MPs this week the pressure we will be able to bring to bare.

DIME BOMBS

A little reported interview on BBC Radio 5 Live on Sunday night raises major concerns about the types of arms the Israeli Defence forces are using. Speaking to a BBC reporter the totally independent Norwegian emergency doctor Mads Gilbert who has been based at Gaza’s largest hospital described some of the injuries they were receiving as consistent with DIME bombs.

DIME (Dense Inert Metal Explosives) bombs are a lethal new addition to the Israel’s vast arsenal. According to medics in Gaza, the IDF has been using these new bombs for the last three months and according to the doctors inflict deadly injuries and is the reason why there has been such a massive civilian death toll in this conflict.

DIME bombs were created as a spin off from the massive ‘Bunker Busters, the US military have used in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

Phosphorus Carpet Bombing

The depravity of the Israeli Government and their armed forces reached new lows this weekend as evidence emerged of the use, as weapons, phosphorus bombs. Eyewitness accounts from Gaza have described how there have been large number burn injuries that have been caused as a direct result of the illegal use of phosphorus shells.

Palestinian medic Dr Yousef Abu Rish. in Khan Younis said the Israelis fired phosphorus shells at Khouza, killing a woman and causing at least 60 people to suffer gas inhalation and burns.

"These people were burned over their bodies in a way that can only be caused by white phosphorus," Dr Rish said.

And according to the highly respected human rights organisation Human Rights Watch have said its researches observed multiple shell-bursts of white phosphorus on 9 and 10 January near Gaza City and Jabaliya refugee camp.

Israel has of course denied the use of phosphorus shells – But can we believe them? Well if their past record is anything to go by then no. In 2006 during their invasion of the Lebanon Israel first denied that they were using phosphorus bombs and then were forced to admit it after doctors produced irrefutable evidence of their widespread use in that conflict.

Remember the International Red Cross believe these bombs should be designated as chemical weapons.

What Can You Do

The daily carnage unfolding in Gaza has to be stopped and you can make a difference.

Join our protests – taking place across the country – check our website for details of the closest protest to you. These include:

· On Monday 12 January, parliament returns – we will be protesting from 4pm in Parliament Square to call for action from the British government. Please join us there! There is also a 24-hour vigil for Gaza, in Parliament Square going on.

Finally we need your financial support – Over the last 17 days PSC has mobilised over 200,000 people to oppose the slaughter in Gaza, with 100,000 alone coming to our national demonstration last weekend.

But building for these demonstrations costs a great deal of money – leaflets, posters and placards are all vital for us to get our message out but cost large amounts of money.

So if you are able to make a donation that will help us maintain the national and international pressure on the Israeli and British Governments, and support the Palestinians, then please contribute via the website www.palestinecampaign.org; call the PSC office on 020 7700 6192 or send cheques to PSC at 162 Holloway Road, London
